Spike Flies with the EA6-B Prowlers

Spike had the thrill of flying with the EA6-B Prowlers today.   The Prowlers are  stationed at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.  This Naval Air Station is the Northwestern most Military base in the Continental United States.  It was established in 1941 just prior to WWII to protect the waters of Puget Sound.

I was a Naval Reservist at NAS Whidbey Island, and worked on the P3 Orion aircraft.  This aircraft was an Anti Submarine Warfare aircraft with an 11 member crew.   

 

The P3 is now being replace by the MMA Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft or the military designation P8A Poseidon.  It is being built in Renton Washington and is a derivative of the popular Boeing 737 model.  Spike is familiar with this because the body sections are built near his hometown in Kansas.
